There isn’t much I like about California, but Black Bear Diner is one of the best things to originate from this state and I look forward to visiting again.CHICO – I was as happy as everyone else in town was when I found out Black Bear Diner had opened on East Twentieth Street where the former Outback Steakhouse was located. I believe they are 6 or 7 dollars a piece but very well worth it. I ordered a chocolate cream pie and a coconut cream pie to go. Overall the meal was great and it definitely hit the spot after a long day of driving. The meat was cooked to perfection and had just the right amount of seasoning. I ordered the Tri Tip Steak with mashed potatoes and gravy as well as green beans. As a trucker who eats everywhere all across the country, you come to find out good service is pretty hard to find but when you do find it, it is a special thing and Black Bear did not disappoint. Definitely one of the best waitresses I have encountered for awhile. The waitress was very kind and made sure I was taken care of. This location is kind of hidden back behind some hotel right by the 49er truck stop on I80. While not located in the best of areas, the quality of food and service was outstanding. Thank you! When we paid and were on our way she wished us a pleasant evening, thanked us and hoped we enjoyed our visit. Each time she came by, she had a smile on offer. After she brought our food, she made sure everything was ok a couple of times, offered us dessert and brought the bill. She came by to check on how we liked them and let us know our meals would be up shortly. She gave us a few minutes to decide on our order, took it and returned quite quickly with our starters. This time, around 7:30, our server was Kayla, and she greeted us with a big smile, seated us and brought our drinks. On the next evening, after an exhausting day of exploring Sacramento, we decided, as we’d had such a positive experience the night before, to give it another go. with us several times and was very grateful with the gratuity we left. She was prompt with our drinks and helpful in suggesting a meal. We went for dinner on the Friday night around 9/9:30. We stayed at the best western across the street and figured we’d check this place out.
